2010 is all about putting your best face forward- new year, new you, right?
If you're ready to experiment with your hair and make-up routine, this is the year to do it. Trends in the beauty industry are all over the map in the coming months. From deconstructed up-do's to burgundy lips, just about anything goes.
Here are a few of my personal faves:
Blunt Force
Stick straight, blunt-cut hair is major this spring. Last year, we saw tons of messy, tousled waves and it's no doubt the straightening iron industry suffered a major sales loss, ha! But blunt is back baby.
Blue Streak
It's time to get the blues. Blue nails, that is. Denim-colored tips were seen all over the Spring 2010 runways recently, so you better stock up on polish now.
Undone Up-do
The deconstructed up-do is my go-to hairstyle for days when I really don't feel like spending an hour in front of the mirror. Stars like Blake Lively and Nicole Richie love to sport this no-nonsense style on the red carpet. It's fun, sexy and most importantly, WAY easy to do yourself. No stylist required. Stock up on clear rubberbands, clips and bobbypins to replicate this look at home.
Smoke Screen
Channel your inner Cleopatra to recreate this smoky eye trend. Smoky eyes are great for a night out with the girls (or a date) and can bring a level of sexiness to any look. Add some individual false lashes or a swipe of liquid liner to the upper lid to add even more oomph to this look.
Seeing Red
Do red lips ever really go out of style? I don't think so. With the emergence of shows like Mad Men, the red lip is about to be bigger than ever. Whether you choose to go with a matte finish, or simply a red gloss, this crimson color is guaranteed to make heads turn.

I got the instyler, and so far it sucks, but I love that hair cut...off to buy some blue polish!
ReplyDeleteStick straight hair... check! I'm on that one already!
ReplyDeleteThe bright red lipstick?? Love it on everyone else... I just can't pull it off. I don't even wear lipstick, just chapstick, so that would be a big step for me.
And LOVE the blue nails... perhaps a manicure is in order now!
Can you come and do my makeup??
ReplyDeleteI wish I could pull off ALL of these looks but seriously - not happening. I am terrrrrible at my makeup! Oh wait, I could do the blue nails though :) lol
Thank for the tips!
I always loved red lipstick, although I can never pull it off with my complexion.
ReplyDeleteI was watching Kathy Lee and Hoda this morning and they had a woman on who said bright colors are definitely IN - but that you should choose either your eyes or your lips (not to be bright with both simultaneously) and then be bold with that choice!!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree Sarah! I definitely think if you choose to go a little bolder on the lips, then use a neutral shadow on the eyes and vice-versa. Otherwise, you run the risk of looking like Mimi from the Drew Carey show, haha (remember her?)
ReplyDeleteHey Girl! Love reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteI left you a little something over at my place:)

I love all of the styles you just mentioned, especially the red lips and blue nail polish! I like blue I think better than black, it would be easier to take off.
ReplyDeleteCold Plasma giveaway at my blog land if you get a chance to stop by. XOXO!
I do the hair, and I've attempted many times to do the red lipstick look, especially when I feel extra 1940ish :) but...like the others, I can't pull it off. My lips are thin as it is, and it makes them look thinner, not bigger.
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie, Thanks for visiting my blog. It's nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteI see a variety of hair styles that are in today. You give some good pointers. I'm not crazy about blue nail polish though. I don't think it's very classy.
Merry Christmas to you!
Girl.. you got whatever "it" is!! Amazing work!!I wish I lived next door so you could make me up all the time!
ReplyDeleteGlad to have stumbled upon you!
