A Bit of Light Reading

In less than one month, I will be off to the West Coast to enjoy some much-needed fun in the sun. My goals for this highly anticipated vacation are simple:

1. Get a tan.

Even if I have to go to one of those airbrush tanning places before I hop on my return flight at LAX, as God as my witness, I'm not coming back to Arkansas unless I look redonkulously bronze.

2. Get a great knock-off handbag.

I'm not shooting for the moon here, I just need a new faux Marc Jacobs satchel to get me through the crucial and, sometimes tricky, summer to fall fashion transition. And frankly, Arkansas' knock-off handbag circuit is seriously lacking.

3. Catch up on some summer reading.

This is perhaps my biggest goal, because I feel like anything I ever read is work related. Honestly, I'm just ready to read something fun and shallow, so bring on the chick lit!

I'll have lots of down time sitting in airports during this vacay, so I thought what better time to submerge myself in the pages of the following tomes:

-The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell

I'm a crazy Candace Bushnall fan. I mean, she could write a book about how to clean a toilet and I'd probably be the first in line at Borders. So obviously, I'm dying to read more about the humble beginnings of my fave screen vixen, Carrie Bradshaw.

-Uncharted Territori by Tori Spelling

Ok, so let's go ahead and state the obvious: This book will not win a Pulitzer. I know this and so does Tori. But her self-deprecating sense of humor and refreshing honesty about the whole Hollywood scene make me love her all the more. I'm not expecting a life-changing literary experience here, just pure, sugary fun.

-Add More "ing" to Your Life by Gabrielle Bernstein

I'm not a big believer in self-help books, but I've heard from various semi-intelligent sources that this book is a pretty decent read for young females. I'm not sure if I need more "ing" in my life, (or for that matter, what exactly "ing" is), but I'm game for finding out.

-That Extra Half An Inch by Victoria Beckham

For starters, that title is money. Secondly, most anything that Posh (and yes, she'll always be "Posh" to me) touches is gold, so I can't wait to dive into her little autobiography. Successful clothing line, killer body even after 3 kids, sexy soccer-playing hubby...the woman is obviously doing something right and I need her secrets yesterday.

So I'm curious to know...what is on your summer reading list? Any suggestions for moi?

(And please ya'll, only frivolous, non-brain-stimulating suggestions...nothing that involves war strategy, political psychology or the Apocolypse. This is a vacation, after all.)

Be blessed, lovelies

  15. Great to do list :-)

I want to read all the books on your list, especially Tori Spelling's book. I loved her first two, especially Mommywood. I admit that her reality show is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine too.

  16. I recently read the Carrie Diaries while at the gym. It's not her best work (Candace's) but it was entertaining enough to finish it in 2 workouts. I think you'll enjoy it. : ] Sounds like good goals. I have a place in FL so I stay as tan as possible this time of year (no skin cancer here though - I wear sunscreen). You will get a ravishing tan I am sure!

  17. I'm almost finished with the Carrie Diaries, and I want to give you the warning that I wish I had gotten before I started. The entire book is her in high school - I expected it to sort of revolve around her growing up and moving to NYC...not the case. It's a decent book, but definitely manage your expectations.
