Greetings, friends. Welcome to this hairtastic edition of Trend Watch Wednesday. Grab your teasing comb and bobby pins and let's get started!
As a girl that almost never wears her hair down during the week, I'm loving that this season is all about "up" hair. Don't get me wrong, I love having longer hair and enjoy fixing it cute on the weekends, but during the work week, I do well just to get out the door in time.
Here were the standout hairstyles on the Fall 2010 runways:
Extreme Side Part
Whether you wear this with a low pony or a nape-of-the-neck bun, a defined side part looks very polished and preppy this season. Jason Wu apparently loved the style so much he featured it in his latest runway show (pictured above).
To get the look, products like Sebastian Professional Potion 9 Lite ($9) and Sebastian Professional Shaper Zero Gravity hairspray ($21) tame flyaways and give your mane a frizz free finish.
Low Bun
Oh me, how do I love this look? Let me count the ways...As a matter of fact, I am sporting this 'do today. Simple, chic and great for days when you don't have time to wash your hair, this style is PERFECT for we ladies on the go.
To get this look, try Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightner ($21) to get a smooth finish, Rusk W8less Hairspray ($14) to hold hair in place, Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream ($32) to give a shine boost and Ricky's Bungee Double 2 Pack ($3.99) to fasten hair into place.
Top Knot
My boyfriend's sister had her hair in an adorable top knot on Sunday and it looked so effortless and cute! She definitely inspired me to try this look on myself soon. Celebs like Cameron Diaz and Sarah Jessica Parker have been spotted rocking the top knot lately to resounding applause from beauty and fashion critics.
To get this 'do, you'll need...barely anything! A clear ponytail will hold hair in place for a base, then bobby pins or a tool like the Goody Spin Pin will help you make the "knot". You can finish it off with a spritz of your favorite hairspray. I like Redken Forceful 23, but any kind will do.
Gaw y'all, I love this too! Stars like Emma Roberts and Rachel Bilson (both pictured above) love their messy ponytails and so do I. Especially great if you have curly or wavy hair, this style works best with textured hair.
You will likely need a curling iron, (1 inch barrel or larger) if you don't have curly or wavy hair to give your mane some texture. If you've already got it, just gather hair into a low pony, then spritz with hairspray and pull a few pieces out around your face. Done!
Poofy Ponytail
Of course I saved the best for last : ) Anyone who knows me in real life, knows that I LIVE in this hairstyle. I don't use a Bumpit, because I have massively thick hair. I just tease the crap out of it and call it good.
Apparently stars like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Ripa, Eva Mendes and Jessica Simpson all love their poofy ponytails too!
I'm actually thinking of doing a video tutorial on how to properly poof sometime soon...is that something y'all would watch? Eh?
Alrighty, so I gotta know...what "up" hair 'do is your fav?
Be blessed, lovelies-
Uhhh YES! Please do a video on how to do the poof ponytail or the messy low bun. I love those looks, but never can recreate them on my own head! I would LOVE that!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I put my hair up a lot during the week! A video tutorial on how to properly poof an achieve the poof ponytail would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI like the low and loose bun! And YES PUHLEEZE do the video on how to poof! I am a poofing dum dum!
ReplyDeleteYes!!! I want to learn how to poof! My hair is thick too so I shouldnt have so many problems!!! And I must say that you made me giggle b/c Sunday's hair to me was done in a fit of frustration that it wasn't cooperating being down! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the loose pony!
ReplyDeleteI heart the low bun :)
ReplyDeleteI am the worst at doing my hair... I so wish I could. But I do love a nice big side part!!! I want to learn how do a "bump." I'll keep working on it!
ReplyDeleteThese are really pretty hairstyles.
ReplyDeleteI love the low bun and pony tail! Those are two of my daily go-to's if I'm in a rush and still want to look cute!
ReplyDeletelove the poof...i've gotten good at doing my own up-dos what with all the weddings i sing in. hot rollers, a teasing comb, and a hairspray does wonders!
ReplyDeletei was thinking during the entire post how i wish you'd include pictures of YOUR hair and then you mentioned a video and i almost fell right out of my seat! please do! and if no video, at least pleeease include pictures! yipeee! xo darling! ...j
ReplyDeleteI am actually growing my hair out so I can HAVE an up do. Maybe by next X-mas, I'll be sporting one.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the video too, but please know that I am southern. I was born with hairspray in one hand and a teasing comb in the other. LOL!!
Have a good day!
Love this post! I am horrible at doing anything to my hair other than drying it. I would love a video!
ReplyDeleteI love the low bun. I do that a couple of times a week because it's so easy and quick. And I would love to see a poof video from you!
ReplyDeletePretty please do a poofy pony tutorial! I can't get mine to stay, even with teasing!
ReplyDeletei wish i could make my hair that cute. idk why it seems so difficult, but it is. my sister has to curl my hair with a curling iron, because i am lame lol
ReplyDeleteYES! Please do a tutorial! I'm teasing-challenged. I absolutely love ALL the hairstyles featured! I can't decide which to try first!
ReplyDeleteI pouff my hair often, but I'd like to see the way someone more professional does it!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the low bun but it always looks really bad when I do it...or it ends up too polished looking which I don't want either.
the entire time reading this i kept thinking that if you had a tutorial than i could actually give it a go. loving all these looks, they look so effortless.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! So glad to know I can justify my up-do as "trendy" I do all of the above except the last two!! So easy and cute!! xo
ReplyDeleteAMAZING! I always pull my hair back and wonder if I still look professional. I love these do's. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post! I am bookmarking it for some hair inspiration! xoxo, Annemarie
ReplyDeleteI love doing cute updos but my hair just looks SO much better down... i feel like anytime i throw it up my roots like ten times worse than they do when they're down. Why is that? Ugh. so annoying.
ReplyDeleteI love that these are all so doable. I usually wear my hair like #1 to work, especially on those days I am running late!
ReplyDeleteI love a poofy ponytail. I'm still working on mastering it. What in the world are those swirly metal doo dads?!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the poofy ponytail! I have tried it a few times, but have always failed. I am not able to tease it without it looking like a bird's nest and when I use a bump-it, you can see it through my hair! I would most definitely watch your video!

ReplyDeleteThe low bun is my favorite! I need to remember that hairstyle in the mornings when I'm too tired to do anything that takes longer than 10 minutes.
