If You Love Your Mama

via

Today’s post is dedicated to my mom. She has stuck with me through thick, thicker and thickest these past 26 years and I couldn’t be more appreciative.

You see, it’s now that I’m an adult, (more specifically an adult on the verge of marriage and starting a family of her own), that I see just how valuable her advice is/was.

Last Friday, we had the quintessential Mac Daddy of mom/daughter moments. We went wedding dress shopping. I stepped out of the dressing room in the first dress (coincidentally the one I picked) and we just looked at each other and smiled.

I should note, we didn’t cry (neither one of us are really criers…more like sarcastic laughers), but a tinge of sweet emotion did come over me and for a moment, I had to pinch myself to remind me that this was that moment that I’ve waited for forever. And so has she.

I can’t wait for the actual wedding day, for her to see her me walking down the aisle, about to marry a man that I love more than life itself.

I’ve had a few stress-induced meltdowns so far and it’s kind of a given that at some point during the wedding planning process, you will plow through a carton of Ben & Jerry’s and call your mom bawling about centerpieces.

In her calm, southern voice, the voice of a true Southern matriarch, she assures me that everything will be ok.

The dress will be beautiful.

The appetizers we selected will be delicious.

S will love my hair in a side bun and won't AT ALL think it looks like Princess Leia from Star Wars.

It is rare for hurricanes to hit Northwest Arkansas during September. Or any month of the year.

It is during these moments that I thank God for my mama, my lifelong rock.

Call your mom today and tell her that you love her. Whether you’re planning a wedding, changing jobs, trying to find one, going through a break-up or just learning the ropes of adulthood, there’s no doubt your mom’s trusted advice has helped you out at one time or another, just like my mom’s has helped me.

Be blessed, lovelies-

  1. I love this post! I feel the same way about my mom. I got married in October and she was my rock. I made sure I let her know how special she was on my big day-I surprised her by having someone sing "Mamas Song" by Carrie Underwood while she was being ushered to her seat. No one else was sat until the song was finished.

I am new to the blog world & I love reading yours :)

  2. Aw Mom love. She will be your biggest fan and supporter through your whole wedding planning process. I don't know what I would have done without my moms help. A lot of little touches throughout the wedding were because of her and for her.

  4. I just smiled when I read this. I remember coming out of the dressing room for the first time in that first dress - she looked at me, teared up and then told me she wasn't going to cry.

You're going to look beautiful, Leslie!

  9. Absolutely great post, girlie! :) The way you described that moment of stepping out of the dressing room.. Love that. :) And moms definitely know what to say to make you feel better... Even when I think mine is stressing me out, she also has the ability to calm me down. When I was taking the bar exam, I called her BAWLING two nights before it saying "WHAT IF I DONT PASS?! WHAT IF?! OHMYGAWD! I'll GET FIRED!!!" She was like "You will pass. And if you don't, it's just a test. I mean...right? You have a degree. And you won't get fired. If you do, you'll get another job. You don't like that one anyway.." I sat there sobbing for a minute and went "Yeah...haha.. I guess you're right." hahahaha... :)
