Trend Watch Wednesday: {Colorblocking Is Still Cool}
File this under: Trends That Were Popular This Past Summer & Are Still Cool for Fall
Colorblocking was hot-to-trot this past summer and dagnabit, it's still hot now. (Yep, I just said dagnabit. Call me Elmer Fudd.) I love the idea of taking something from a previous season and giving it a facelift for another - so much fun and a GREAT way to stretch your wardrobe from season to season!
For transitioning the colorblocked look into fall, you've gotta go toward cozier colors. You can still use bright colors, but keep them grounded and earthy by using neutral colors as the base of your palette. (Earthy? What the heck is up with my lingo today?)
Take note below of how a few stylish females pulled off colorblocking during cooler weather:
Emma Stone rocks her bright fuschia with fire hydrant red - a color commonly associated with autumn. And Razorback football : )
Not sure who this is, but she sure knows how to colorblock. Love the unexpected pop of Barbie pink amongst all the browns and tawny tans.
If ever there were a perfect colorblocking palette for fall, this would be it. Hello brick red and chocolate brown...so nice to see you!
So yeah, ga'head and give the ole colorblocking maneuver a second try this sesason...you might rediscover your love for cross-seasonal trending.

19 Days + Pics from the Weekend
Hey ladies! Hope all of y'all had a great weekend! We did, but MAN was it a fast and furious one. I really don't think that we stopped going the whole time...craziness, I tell you.
Saturday morning, my mom and I hit Hobby Lobby early to buy up some last minute items needed for the reception decor. It's still crazy to me that we're thisclose to September 17th already!
That afternoon, we hit up the lake for a short-lived cruise around the lake. I say short-lived because it was hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. I mean REALLY, Momma Nature!?? Can't you please send us southerners some relief already? And while you're at it, give our east coast neighbors a break from Irene?
Speaking of Ms Irene...I saw reports on TV from her destruction this weekend and LAWD ALMIGHTY! Girlfriend needs to pop a Midol and slow her 59 mph self down already! Hope all of y'all on the east coast are hangin' in there!
Yesterday, Stephen and I drove over to Fort Smith for a birthday lunch in honor of his sister, Sarah. A few pics ensued before we left the house.
And I know you have seen this diva before, but this is Ava, Stephen's little niece. We laughed because she kind of looks like she's throwing up some kind of gang sign. Just call her Avizzle. She also happens to be our flower girl for our wedding in NINETEEN DAYS.
My word.
On that note, I'm off to take a nerve pill and do some soothing yoga moves.
Ok, not really. But that option sounds far more appealing than answering emails and crafting clever financial marketing campaigns here at work, (which is what girlfriend is really gonna do...)
Be blessed, lovelies-

Forgive my lack of mascara...it's a sin to take pics without the stuff but I plum forgot to put it on. |

Neckin'
via |
I had a colorful childhood.
Anywhozit, today’s post isn’t about tonsil hockey or fast women named Sally. Nope, today’s post is about fun accessories to put ‘round yo’ neck this fall.
Fall.
Let’s all take a moment and repeat that word slowly and with purpose.
Faaaaaalllllllll……….Bless it.
Here are my top picks for fun neck accessories this season:
Snood
Pieces Lucy Leopard Snood and River Island Loose Knit Snood |
I’ll start by giving y’all the official Wikipedia definition of snood: A type of European neckwear, a tubular scarf that does not have ends; a complete circle of knitted fabric. Can be worn as a scarf or even as a hood.
My definition goes a little something like this: A really long circle of cable knit that you can drape around your neck as many times as you fancy. It sounds more expensive and exotic than a plain old “scarf” and therefore, typically costs more dinero. I think I’ll refer to all of my neck accessories this fall as snoods, just to give myself extra street cred as a fashion blogger.
Do you think that when you wear a snood it’s called ‘snooding’?
Boston Terriers can 'snood' too! |
Scarf
Warehouse Cheetah Print Scarf and Alice Hannah Color Block Scarf |
Well, it’s a scarf. Not much to say about these other than the fact that they are not only awesome, but necessary for any chica’s wardrobe. There’s a reason why the scarf has been around forevs – it’s timeless. It was originally created in 1678 to block Swiss peasants’ necks from the elements while they tended their fields and explored the Matterhorn (ok, yeah I’m full of crap.) Anyway, this lovely, super popular accessory can really be worn at any time of the year….whether you’re a Swiss, mountain-climbing peasant or a 26 year old web marketing manager from Arkansas.
Collar
ASOS Premium Sequin Collar and Famtasy Fur Peter Pan Collar |
These are REALLY ‘in’ this season, as we noticed on several of the Fall 2011 runways. You can actually purchase them separately (like necklaces) and add them on as an accessory to sweaters, cardigans and even coats to create a polished look. The Peter Pan style collar is one of the most popular, (and one of my personal favs.)
Square Scarf
Silk Look Suitcase Print Scarf and Silk Look Grid Print Square Scarf |
I know what you’re thinking; a scarf is a scarf is a scarf, right? Well actually, these scarves are quite different from traditional scarves in that they have to be tied completely differently. They are shorter and square-er and usually made of a much lighter fabric, like silk. I used to refer to them fondly as the Boy Scout scarf, but these nowadays are far more stylish than anything those knot tying, rope climbing boys ever wore.
Doth you fair maidens see a neck accessory that tickles your fancy? Will you snood this year?

These Are My Confessions...
In the words of Usher...these are my confessions…
I had written up this cutesy little post for today's weekly Wedding Sneak Peek series post, but about halfway through it, wanted to gauge my eyes out with my letter opener.
Sorry, that was graphic and violent and this is a nice little southern blog about skirts and sweet tea.
In fact ladies, I think I may have reached the point of wedding overload. Hearing the words like “rehearsal dinner” and “bustle” and “registry” have set my teeth on edge here lately. Basically, the thought that we still have three more weeks of this madness makes me want to crawl underneath my disaster area of a desk with a gallon of pinot noir and an entire cheesecake until sometimearound September 17th.
In other words, things are going swimmingly on the wedding planning front.
On top of all of this, we are working on a mammoth of a project at work and yesterday, Outlook kindly reminded me that the deadline is just one week to the day before our wedding.
Splendid.
These are not legitimate complaints. I realize there are earthquakes and hurricanes and famines going on in the world right now, but I’d honestly take a 5.9 on the Richter scale over this business.
All this brings me to today’s topic: Confessin’
I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours!
1. We’ll consider the rambling mess above my confession #1 – I’m sick of planning weddings, mainly just my own.
2. I couldn’t care less about those dadgum life planners that everyone on Twitter and Facebook and blogs keeps raving about. I didn’t buy one because I refuse to spend $50 on a spiral notebook. I think I’m going to go buy some random item, like a toaster with our monogram or a toilet plunger with damask print, and start raving about how it has changed my life, just as a sort of social experiment to see if it starts a trend. But then again, I’m not really that cool, so I’d probably just look like nutjob who loves her household appliances just a leeettle too much.
3. I was so tired on Tuesday night, that I went to bed without taking my make-up off, woke up the next morning and wore the same make-up to work. I did take a shower, but didn’t have enough time to wash my face and reapply. Plus, I figured that day old makeup was better than no make-up, at least where my natural beauty was concerned.
4. I haven't cooked a meal since....well, I can't remember when. We (S and I) used to cook up a storm during the week, but lately, it's all Chick-Fil-A and Subway. Hey, at least we're eating diet fast food. Right...right??
5. I may or may not have considered picking up a teeny weeny baby Razorback cheerleading outfit when we were at Cracker Barrel last week. (Yes, we eat dinner at Cracker Barrel...just call us Mamaw and Papaw.) Let the record stand - I'm not with child. But aren't things just so darn precious when they're in miniature size?
6. And speaking of Cracker Barrel...I can never get past four pegs with that stupid game they keep on their tables. I believe this means I am an "IG-NOR-A-MOOSE" or something to that effect. Yet, I keep on trying...one day, y'all.
7. My breakfast yesterday was a tall vanilla latte and three Junior Mints. Breakfast of champs, I tell you
Now it's your turn...let's hear those confessions!

Trend Watch Wednesday: {Shop for a Cause}
I don’t know about y’all, but one of my favorite ways to spice up an outfit is to accessorize it with fun jewelry! I’m positively addicted to finding cool new pieces to add to my ever-growing collection. Well girls, this season will be no different for moi. I’m already spending way too much time on websites like Stella & Dot lately, swooning over the gorgeous pieces from their fall collection and trying to decide which ones I want to buy first!
After the Rain Bracelet |
Estate Chandelier Earrings and Aurora Cocktail Ring |
Pegasus Necklace |
Jacqueline Necklace |
Renegade Cluster Bracelet |
But first, a little backstory:
My friend Christy’s daughter McKenzie was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a.k.a. CF, at only 4 days old and since then, has been spending 2 hours a day doing treatments and taking over 30 pills EVERY DAY. I don’t know about y’all, but just taking a vitamin every day is hard for me! Can you imagine? Anyway, to help McKenzie and the thousands of others dealing with CF in their fights, Great Strides hosts walks around the country to raise funds that go toward Cystic Fibrosis research. Christy and McKenzie have gotten their own team together for a Great Strides Walk on August 27th at the Bentonville Plaza, (click here if you live in NWA and are interested in joining their team!)
Meet McKenzie...isn't she presh?! |
In addition to the Great Strides walks, several other individuals are pitching in to help out! On Monday night, Christy told me about a fundraiser that a Stella & Dot stylist friend of hers was hosting for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Right now, Christy’s friend Sherri is donating a portion of the sales on her website to the CFF and McKenzie’s Walk Team. It’s simple, you can order online and your items will be shipped directly to you in just a few days. McKenzie’s team has a huge goal this year of raising $20,000 for the CFF; any amount will surely help out.
If you’re like me and have jewelry running out your ears, (ha!), you can also donate directly to McKenzie’s team on her team page. Any donation to the CFF is tax deductible and 90% goes DIRECTLY to research of Cystic Fibrosis…that almost unheard of for a non-profit organization.
For any of your readers who go to the Team Mackenzie page and make a donation, for every $10 you donate, Christy will put your name in a drawing for a Stella & Dot necklace (you can put that you came from A Blonde Ambition blog on the comment portion of your donation.) The Stella & Dot necklace up for grabs is this beauty, the Claire:
Claire Necklace |
If you would like to place a Stella & Dot order in support if CFF, you can go to Sherri’s website anytime and enter her name, Sherri Rice, as your Hostess. As always, your order will ship directly to you in just 2-3 days!
So what are we all waiting for? I’m off to make my purchase right now and help out McKenzie and others battling CF at the same time!
Be blessed, lovelies-

Things That Keep This Bride Up At Night
"It's like raaaaiiin on your wedding day..." Ironic via Alanis Morisette |
With the official wedding countdown at T-minus 26 days now, it’s fair to say I’m getting a little anxious. Not about the actual marriage AT ALL. In fact, S and I joked the other night about how much easier it would have been to have just gone down to the courthouse, haha! No, my worries are actually more about the detail-ish stuff; décor, cake, dress alterations, making wedding weight, etc.
I have the CRAZIEST dreams lately. Like, the other night, I awoke in a cold sweat after dreaming that it was the day of the wedding and the venue where our reception is being held called to tell us that their place had burned down the night before! Terrible.
I also dreamed that Stephen was actually from Italy (to be fair, he is of Italian descent) and the immigration peeps said his green card wasn’t legit. Therefore, we wouldn’t be able to get married. This is hilarious because, a) Stephen lived his entire life in Northwest Arkansas; b) He’s never even been out of the country.
Craziness, I tell you.
I’ve seen so many pictures on photography sites lately of beautiful brides. They are perfectly toned, fit and tanned. I look at myself in the mirror and see bloated and pale. What gives?
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been trying so hard to eat healthfully and hit the gym lately, but the stresses of wedding stuff have definitely led me to indulge a bit more than I probably should be lately.
Also thoughts like…
My teeth aren’t white enough.
Our invitations weren’t elaborate enough.
Should we be serving chicken instead of beef?
Oh my gosh, I forgot we still need to get a guest book!
I shouldn't have eaten that cupcake.
I shouldn't have eaten that cupcake.
We still owe the church $250 to pay the clean-up crew!
Where will we come up with a spare $250 to pay the church to pay said cleaning crew?
Will people think it’s weird that I’m not walking down the aisle to the bridal march?
Should I have gotten the silk organza gown instead of the satin? (Even though I’ve had a long-standing love affair with satin.)
Why can't I drag myself off the couch to go to the gym?
Why can't I drag myself off the couch to go to the gym?
Crap! I forgot to rent the aisle runner!
What if Aunt Flo pays a visit the day of the wedding? (My time of the month has a tendency to show up whenever it feels like it, despite my being on The Pill. TMI, I know.)
What if I’m so overcome with emotion that I can’t stop bawling long enough to say my vows? (This REALLY worries me.)
What if one of our guests brings their baby and it screams and cries during the ceremony?
(We’ve got several guests with bambinos and, though I’m sure our peeps would be considerate enough to take them out, I’ve been to weddings before where the parents just sit there and let them cry it out.
Mortifying.)
What if one of our wedding party members just doesn’t show up? (Again, ridiculous.)
I really hope we didn't forget to send an invite to someone we know well.
I really hope we didn't forget to send an invite to someone we know well.
What if the sound system messes up?
What if the church catches on fire?
What if it rains?
What if my hair decides it doesn’t want to cooperate that day?
What if I grow a huge wart on the end of my nose spontaneously the night before?
What if someone actually objects during the “Does anyone have a reason why these two should not be married? Speak now or forever hold your peace” part?
Do wedding officiants even read the “Does anyone have a reason why these two should not be married? Speak now or forever hold your peace” part anymore??
What if I accidentally lock my knees at the altar and pass out?
……………………………………………..What if I accidentally lock my knees at the altar and pass out?
And so on and so forth. Really, it’s all consuming, y’all.
I’m trying to remember to live in the moment and savor each minute of this pre-wedding stuff. After it’s over, I know I’ll look back on all of this and laugh about how flipping worried I was during the weeks before.
I know that our guests will leave the reception with full tummies, whether it’s chicken or beef.
I know that our church has a great sprinkler system, just in case it does happen to erupt in flames.
I know that if I start to cry, Stephen will make me laugh and, therefore, I’ll be able to repeat my vows sans sobbing.
I know that my hairdresser and Redken Forceful 23 hairspray will make sure that my mess of hair cooperates.
Most importantly, I know that come hell or high water, I will marry Stephen on September 17th, 2011.
...and speaking of high water, does anyone know if Arkansas has ever experienced an immobilizing flood during the month of September before?
Be blessed, lovelies-

Hello Fall: {Judith March}
Lately I've been getting lots of emails from you pretty ladies about where to find cute fall dresses! Of course, if you live in an SEC state, I'll probably refer you to this post, but I realize that there are Blonde Ambitioners from all over!
One of my all-time favorite AFFORDABLE dress designers is Judith March. If you're under the age of 50, this would be my top recommendation for dress-maker. I perused the Judith March website this morning and found quite a few pretties that would be just perfect for any girl for fall 2011.
*I should note, JM is not a sponsor of this blog, nor am I getting any type of compensation for writing this post...I honestly love the design house and everything it cranks out.

A Singing Contest, Some Egocentric TV Personalities and Reasons Why I Love Spray Tanning
...and the 2011 Blogger award for longest title ever goes to.....
Whatevs.
Anywhoodle, if you’re reading this, it means you’ve made it to Friday. And for that, dear readers, I commend you. And me. Because I’m writing this and that means I’ve made it to Friday, too.
In honor of today, the day that signals the end of the work week and the beginning of the glorious weekend, I thought I’d just purge some rando thoughts, ideas and questions that have been running through my mind this week. M’kay?
1. First thing’s first, my good friend Euni has a very talented young daughter, A.J., that is quite the singer. She is actually participating in a Youth Talent Contest right now where people can go and vote for their favorite kid performer. KFSM will choose 30 top performers (chosen by the number of votes) to perform in the semi-finals on the Dr. Pepper Stage at the 2011 Arkansas Oklahoma State Fair! Their judges will then choose 15 finalists to take the big stage for the chance at the grand prize!
If you get a spare minute today, can y’all go vote for her please? I’ve sort of watched this kiddo grow into her own over the past few years and she’s not only beautiful, but also just a GOOD person; pure of heart and considerate of others. She’s also got a heart for the Lord, which just makes me love her even more : )
So yeah, please go lend A.J. your vote! You can vote once a day, so get to it, Blonde Ambitioners : )
2. A few of y’all have asked where you can get affordable silk tunics, so I’ve searched the interwebs and found several WAY cute options for you for less than $100 a pop. Take a look-sey!
-Twist & Tango Silk Tunic from ASOS
-Silk Tunic with Buttons in Olive from National Jean Company
-Silk Charmeuse Tunic from J.Jill
-Da-Nang Voile Tunic in Raw
-Trinity 3/4 sleeve Tunic Top in Sage/Red Print
-Quicksilver Nevermind L/S Button Up Tunic in After Hours Black
-Abstract Satin Tunic from Forever21
-Pleated Peter Pan Top in Cream from Forever21
-Long Woven Shirt in Royal from Forever 21
-Sheer Woven Top in Nude from Forever 21
3. I’ve gotten a couple requests from readers to re-post the links to the APY60 fitness program. This workout program has changed my body and gotten me into wedding shape in no time flat! You can visit APY60.com to learn more about this program, created by the yoga instructor for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders! APY60 fitness program…it’s awesome!
Also, you can get Free Shipping with Coupon Code: freeship
4. Has anyone else out there tuned in to Most Eligible: Dallas on Bravo lately? Honestly, it pains me to admit I watch such hogwash. But seriously, the amount of ego that each of the cast members carries is beyond anything I’ve ever seen. However, do I think I'll tune in? Yes. I'm a glutton for mindless, self-indulgent television of any kind.
5. I love spray tanning. I feel like I’m constantly professing my love for the spray tan, but I really do love it. I’ve been getting one every two weeks all summer and I can really tell a difference in the way my skin feels, as opposed to previous summers when I’d bake in the sun for hours on end and come home looking like a leather satchel. I cannot tell you girls enough how important it is to forego the tanning bed. I talked to a girl yesterday who just found out she has malignant melanoma. She tanned for years. Spray tanning = Best thing to happen to the beauty industry ever.
6. I’ll definitely be getting a fresh Mystic Tan before those boudoir pics I talked about yesterday…
7. Speaking of the boudoir pics, I now feel like I need to do 1,000 sit-ups before bed every night leading up to that shoot. Now I know how those Playboy centerfolds must feel.
Minus the big boobs.
And I’ll be wearing underwear.
8. My new hair extensions and I are really getting along well. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to invest in some. I mean, how did I go 26 years without knowing the pure bliss of really long, clip-in hair?
9. I want this Animal Print dress (also seen below) from ASOS in the worst way.
10. We are getting our marriage license on Monday. WOAH NELLY!!!!
11. I’ll no longer have a fiancé in 28 days. I’ll have a husband. Again, Nelly, woah.
Y’all have a great weekend. I’m off to visit my momma for the weekend.

A Blonde Wedding: {Sneak Peek #2}
Our Wedding Sneak Peek Series continues today with the second installment and I’m so excited to show y’all more fun details about our big day! Let’s get right to it!
This week’s wedding letter is “B”.
B is for…
Brooch
I saw a few bridal magazines that featured bouquets with brooches attached to the stems and loved the idea! I’m still in the process of finding the perfect brooch for my bouquet, but I know I definitely want one adorning mine on the big day.
Ideally, I’d like to find two matching brooches – one for my bouquet and the other for my mom’s. I’m planning to scour Etsy this weekend, since they always have the best accessories for vintage-loving brides!
Boudoir
I’ve had a couple of girl friends who have done boudoir-type photo shoots for their hubbies as wedding day gifts. Personally, I love the idea of getting all dolled up in flirty lingerie and taking some cute pics for your man…I mean, chances are, you’re in the best shape of your life, right? Why not remember it forever?!
My friend and amazing photog, Rhyanne Ketron, will be shooting mine at the end of the month and I’m pumped! Though these will be for S’s eyes only, I will definitely tell y’all how it goes! We're planning on something tasteful, flirty and fun.
Blossom
I’ve known for a while now that whatever I end up doing with my hair on the Big Day, I want a blossom to adorn it. I love the look of a barrette or flower pinned neatly into a cute up-do or even on the side of hair worn down.
It’s beautiful and timeless and the perfect alternative to those of us brides who aren’t veil girls!
Band
…wedding band, that is. I’ll be wearing my great grandmother’s wedding band on my right hand when I walk down the aisle. She passed it on to my Memaw, who passed it on to me several years ago, in hopes that someday I’d wear it for my own wedding.
The band actually has 3 diagonal lines etched into the front of it, representing three generations of women. It actually gives me chills to think about my great grandmother and Memaw wearing it down the aisle for their weddings to my grandfathers.
Blush
Our accent color is blush, which I LOVE. Our main colors are very muted, so I wanted something light and airy to offset the drama of the grey, coal and alabaster in the main palette.
I thought blush was a perfect solution for that! My bridesmaids’ dresses are blush and many of our English Garden roses will be in a nude, café ‘au lait color.

That’s all for today, girls! Stay tuned for the third installment of this special Sneak Peek series next week…I’ll even be revealing our invitations! : )

Trend Watch Wednesday: {Fall Essentials}
This came from Pinterest, but I have no clue who designed this shoe or where it can be purchased : ( |
Greetings, girlies. Looks like we’ve officially made it to mid-week…hooray and hoorah! With fall just right around the corner, I thought it was high time to start putting together my own wishlist of clothes and accessories for the upcoming season. This fall, more than any season previously, the style abounds. Leopard and snakeskin, tulle and lace, leather and denim…oh my stars, it’s almost too much goodness to handle!
In case you’re working on putting together your own fall “must-have” list, here are a few essentials I think we ought to all have on hand this season:
Scalloped Skirts
Scalloped edges are ever-so-femme, making them perfect for a girly fall look. This beauty (seen above) from ASOS is the epitome of prettiness!
Button-Up Tunics in Silk
Ashley Hebert rocked the heck out of these on this season’s Bachelorette and now it’s our chance! Invest in a few tunics in various shades of earth-tones and navy (like these by Rory Beca above) and pair them with skinny jeans for an effortlessly cool fall look.
Silk Dresses
Are you noticing a trend here with the silk, yet? I’ve tweeted about this dress before (probably because I bought it and LOVE it so much!), but seriously, you’ve got to see the beauty firsthand, y’all. It’s perfect for a dressy autumn event, like oh, a wedding perhaps? ; ) Maybe say, if you were attending one on Northwest Arkansas on September 17th?? Ok, I’ll stop now.
Leopard, However You Please
Faux Fur Jacket by Tulle |
Blue Moon Shorts in Leopard Silk |
Leopard shorts and jackets will be prime candidates for ‘most-purchased’ items this season, as it appears this once daring animal print is becoming a popular neutral! Pair it with denim, leather, suede or silk…where it on a purse, as a top, even as a short…just wear it.
Nude
AIKO Maud Top in Nude |
Steve Madden "Bevv" Heel in Blush |
Nope, I don’t mean going nakey, but rather sporting shades of blush, taupe and beige. These heels and this top are perfection. Be sure to keep your make-up glossy and simple, in keeping with the subtle shades of the nude rainbow.
Structured Blazers in Twill
Twill Blazer with Shawl Collar in Olive, by K-Dash for Kardashian |
Every girl needs a great fitting blazer in her closet; consider it an investment piece and pay a few extra dollars to ensure the integrity of yours is outstanding. The most flattering lengths are those that fall right atop the hip bones. These puppies will make you look ten pounds skinnier and 5 inches taller…for serious.
Winter Wedges
Wedges are synonymous with summer and sundresses, but this winter, designers like Jeffrey Campbell and Sam Edelman are doing the “winter” wedge. This close-toed stunner is exactly what any girl needs to add spice and sex appeal to a hum-drum fall wardrobe.
What are your essentials for this fall? Are you a leopard lover or a silk supporter? Maybe you can’t wait to get your hands on the perfect twill blazer? Do tell!
Be blessed, lovelies-
