Two of my all-time favorite pieces for summer are a great
pair of daisy duke shorts and a cute, tied-up top. Not that my midsection or
legs are anything to write home about, but dukes and tied tops just make a girl
feel…well…cute : )
Plus, I know I probably won’t always be able to get away
with wearing this stuff. And I don’t want to be one of those women that has no
clue that she dresses like a teeny-bopper.
Lordy be. I just said teeny-bopper. I have officially become
my momma.
So while I’m 27, I plan to indulge in wearing form fitting,
leg-baring, semi-tummy-showing clothing. Here’s how we rock these pieces down here in the south,
where the daisy dukes and tied-up shirt trends were born.
Dukes
It’s all about the cut. Repeat it out loud, girls: “IT’S ALL
ABOUT THE CUT.” I wouldn’t really suggest trying to make a pair unless you’re
really good at wielding a pair of fabric scissors. Instead, look for a pair in
stores where the legs are cut in a diagonal angle, coming up higher on the
sides.
It may seem short, but …well…it is. That’s the point.
Also, fraying on the hems give it a cool, lived-in look. And
you definitely want that.
Tied-Up Tops
This is really one of those items that can be worn at almost
any age. You can tie it up to reveal tummy or not – it’s up to you and what you
feel comfortable with. I like to show about an inch of my midsection for a
subtle, sexy look.
By tying your shirt in a knot at the bottom of the tail,
you’ll create a custom fitted look, like you see on the mannequins at the
store.
Something every girl should have southern or not! :)
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable! My summer go-to (as a Southern lady) is the perfect shade of red nail polish...

Leslie !! you are gorgeous :) !! I esp love the white pants, denim top, and necklace.
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute! I love the outfit with the top tied and your white jeans. I'm all about denim cut-offs and tied tops right now. :)
ReplyDeleteTexas girls needs great flip flops and wedges! We also tend to rock the cut-offs w/ boots... but at almost 30 I tend to shy away from that look.... but loving the tied up chambray with a maxi!
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I've learned about living in the South {as a former East Coaster} is that you have to dress stylishly for comfort. If that makes sense. Maxi dresses and skirts are king in the Southern Heat if you can't wear shorts.
ReplyDeleteI can't see myself sporting Daisy's BUT I'd love to. Maybe next year after my overhaul with fitness. But a comfortable pair of khaki shorts in any color work great too just make sure they aren't all rumpled.
I love your looks girl!!! And I agree there is something so cute about a tied shirt and short shorts on the right body.
P.S. My uniform for summer will be the exploration of the maxi's and probably other skirts... and lots of tanks w/ nike shorts on the creek {those nike shorts dry SO well after a big splash while kayaking and as much as the inner "undies" drive me nuts they are a gem for keeping your swim suit in place while you paddle. TMI... sorry ;)
completely agree about the daisy dukes + the chambray! just got my first chambray and I can't wait for the warmer weather to come so I can wear it with white jeans. great outfits!
