Confessional Friday: {Link Up}

The topic of this week for Confessional Friday is pet peeves and I'm dying to hear yours! I can't wait to see if some of us share a few of the same.

Here are the front runners on my list:

1. Drivers who don't actually yield at yield signs.
I think in my previous life, I was a traffic cop. And yes, I drive like an 80-year-old grandmother on a sightseeing trip through Branson. But there's nothing more irritating than some yay-hoo (technical term) who careens right through a yield sign with no regard to fellow drivers.

2. Folks who speak a smidge too loudly.
By nature, I'm pretty soft spoken, so I think peeps with booming voices just put me on edge. This is made worse when they are so loud that they talk over other people. (Probably because they cannot hear them for the sound of their own voice.)

3. Incorrect word usage.
A few of my personal favorites:

supposed to vs. suppose to
"I am supposed to go to the market." - Correct
"I am suppose to go to the market." - Incorrect

used to vs. use to
"She used to attend Junior League meetings on Monday." - Correct
"She use to attend Junior League meetings on Monday." - Incorrect

past vs. passed
"In the past, we voted on the winner." - Correct
"In the passed, we voted on the winner." - Incorrect

4. Irregardless.
The above is not a word. It shouldn't be used as such. Regardless is just fine on it's own without the addition of the "i-r".

5. People who don't say "please" or "thank you".

6. The Kardashians.

...................

Don't forget, you can get the topic schedule from week-to-week right here!

  1. Hehe love your list! My former boss said "irregardless" all the time and I always cringed but of course couldn't correct him! Hadn't thought of that in a while!

  2. Ooooh, people who don't say please or thank you are a pet peeve of mine too. What happened to good old fashioned manners? My parents taught me to always say please and thank you. And ma'am and sir. And I will be passing those manners down to my little man, no doubt about it.

And the Kardashians. Oh, the Kardashians. Famous for being the family with the least class and the most money around. They have long been another pet peeve of mine. So annoying that they are even famous. These days, it seems like you need to have absolutely no skill whatsoever to be famous.

    Happy Friday, Leslie (and Caroline!)

  4. Annnnd along with #1, are people who come to a full STOP at yield signs when there is no one in oncoming traffic to pause for. I have come entirely too close to hitting these annoying people in the rear.

  7. I would have to say that one of my pet peeves is the misuse of peek, peak, and pique.
    Incorrect: sneak peak.
    Correct: sneak peek

    Have a great Friday!

  8. UGH yes the Kardashians!

Loud talkers... they drive me nuts too. I am a loud person by nature, I speak loudly but only in situations that warrant that. The other day at lunch, I had had a really rough AM... stressed to the max and we went to a seemingly quite place (Thai) to eat and relax. The group next to us, a bunch of business peeps were in a contest to see who could boast the loudest. I wanted to rip my hears off it was so annoying.

When you are sitting THAT close at a restaurant don't talk loud enough for EVERYONE to hear!

    Linking up shortly! ox

  10. Goodness, this is a great list. Incorrect word usage is awful. My mother says "irregardless" ALL. THE. TIME. and it drives me bonkers. I've tried to tell her it's not a word, but she ignores me. I'm with you on the Kardashians, too. I think most of the world hates them, but for some reason, they're still around. I don't get it.

And um...people who don't drive correctly are on every single list of pet peeves or annoyances that I ever make. They're the worst!

  11. Oh preach girl, preach!! I also get annoyed with people who don't yield at yield signs. It drives me nuts when people do not stop at stop signs either. It doesn't say "slow down and roll on through", it says "Stop". The Kardashians need to go away, too.

I grew up in the south, so I believe that saying please and thank you should be a part of everyones speech habits, as well as yes ma'am, no ma'am, yes sir, and no sir.....even if you are an adult.

  12. Don't even get me started on Their, There, and They're! Hahahaha Happy Friday!

  13. Almost every one of those could go on my list, too!! Except the yield thing, because for some reason, it really doesn't come up where I live. But if it did, I'm sure it would annoy me, too ;-) Thanks for this fun link-up! I've been hoping to find something relatively low-stress to link with fairly often - this is perfect!

  14. Oh this list is amazing! My thoughts exactly! One pet peeve I would add is the constant use of the word "anyways" instead of "anyway." Drives me nuts!

  16. I like this tag. I am one that has to check my word usage all the time. The last one is my favorite, they are at the top of my list of pet peeves.
