Things Lately (a.k.a. Let's Talk Like Girls Do)

Today has no topic or rhyme or reason. So basically, it's Tuesday.

Here are a few topics for discussion today:

1) Where can I get a whole mess of big cardboard boxes to pack up our house? I know you can purchase them, but I'm looking for a less costly solution (read: FREE). Will warehouses or big stores (i.e. Walmart, Sam's Club, etc.) give you those if you just ask?? I'm not above a dumpster dive.

2) We have to be out of the house by July 15. (Hear that? It's the sound of panic coursing through my veins.)

3) I'm obsessed with Orange is the New Black. If loving a show about a corrupt women's prison is wrong, then I don't want to be right.

4)  Stephen was in Minneapolis for work yesterday and so Caroline and I were solo last night. I never sleep that well when he's gone, so I was up pretty much every hour on the clock. Finally, I gave in to insomnia and watched the only thing that was live: QVC.

QVC is funny. You never think that you'd need a pair of light-up, terry cloth house slippers, (you know, for those late-night trips to the fridge), but then they spell out all the reasons why you're crazy if you DON'T order a pair. So, you find yourself Easy-Paying your way (a little Q lingo for ya) to a new pair of house shoes. (And for the record, I did not order anything. But I was tempted. Oh, was I ever tempted.)

5) There was a bat and her baby that took up residence in our garage sometime early in the morning on Monday. I discovered them around noon yesterday and proceeded to flip shiz. NO MA'AM. I don't care if they are harmless and "good for the ecosystem" and whatnot. They're creepy and gross and you won't change my mind. (If you really want to lose sleep, watch this. Then tell me how cute they are.)

I polled my Facebook friends who offered words of advice to get them to leave. I resorted to leaving our garage open last night (with our door locked, of course) in hopes they'd fly out.

And they did.

Thank the good Lord.

.....................................

Okay, now you tell me what's on your mind! See, it's just like we're two friends having coffee ; )

  1. If you have a Total Wine (or really any liquor store) close by, I know ours gives away their boxes! They tend to be super sturdy and in great shape, although some people give you the side eye when it looks like you're moving in cases of Jack Daniels and Grey Goose. Otherwise, I've also found some free ones at Home Depot in their back area. After moving once a year for the last four years, I've become a box-scouting pro.

  2. Ditto on the moving boxes! We are moving in 13 days and I'm beginning to panic! So far I've managed to pack exclusively in boxes from Amazon prime purchases & Office Depot boxes from the office. Pretty proud of myself but I think I've just found (another) reason to stop at the liquor store this evening :)

  3. Chickfila will give free boxes. All day. Every day!

  4. I get mine from the grocery store. If you ask for boxes (especially the produce or wine ones) they will give them to you. (At least they did for me!) Also, I second the ABC or liquor store. They always have a ton. Finally, I've had success at Dollar Tree before too.

  5. I keep hearing a radio ad about how families should vacation in Arkansas. Every single time, I think, "oh, I should vacay in AR and meet Leslie?"

  6. I usually ask the grocery stores if I can have their apple boxes...those are the best. Lots on your mind! Have a great day honey! Kori xoxo www.blondeepisodes.com

  7. If you know anyone who works at a local grocery store, they may can get you access to their plastic collapsible crates! We just did this for our move a couple weeks ago. They were wonderful and stacked perfectly to move! After we unpacked, we just returned them to the store. Ours came from Kroger, but I'm sure most groceries have something similar. It's definitely worth asking!!

  8. Ditto the liquor stores. Our's here in Chattanooga pile 'em up outside for people to take. When we moved years so, we used LOTS of copy paper boxes. They're kind of small but will work in a pinch!

  9. Our local liquor store gives away their boxes. They leave them in a spot on their porch and you just go grab them. The dividers in them make them very good for packing glasses or you can pull the dividers out and use them for everything else. Call your local grocery store and see if they will hold some for you. Also check craigslist in your area for people who have just moved. I have seen ads several times for people who have just moved and post they are putting their boxes out for anyone who wants to swing by and grab them.

  10. Get to the liquor store. I have moved 11 times in the past three years, each time with boxes from the liquor store.

  11. I just moved as well and I got all of my boxes FO FREE! Just put a little status on Facebook and friends and companies will come out of the woodwork!

  12. I get obsessed with watching QVC as their stuff is selling quickly. There is something so freakin satisfying when they're like, "oh! the blue purse is all gone now! We have to put that one away. I repeat, there are now no more blue purses remaining" Watching them sell like hot cakes is seriously something I can't tear my eyes away from.

  13. Head over to your local liquor store for boxes. I have moved way too many times and they're boxes are great because 1. they'll give them to you free and 2. they're designed to hold glass bottles of liquid so they're heavy duty (read: the bottoms aren't going to fall out or squish in and ruin your stuff).

Totally been watching way too much Orange is the New Black as well.

  14. Check Craigslist for boxes. A lot of people want to get rid of them after a big move. And most of the time, they are free!

  15. Sounds crazy, but I got TONS of really nice boxes from the hospital. My mom runs the radiology department (right in front) and they get them every day. They had nice big ones for linens and whatnot. Did you guys find a new house already, too?! So exciting!

  16. That bat video. Terrifying!!! I am not thankful to you for introducing me to the worlds largest bat. ;)

  17. Uhaul has a give a box/take a box area in each store where customers leave boxes that are in decent shape - totally free. See if there is a Half Price Box store in your area. You can return unused boxes for a refund there.

  18. Wine and spirits stores have great boxes and they will normally hand them over free without questions.

  19. Good luck with the move! You can hit up Lowes or Walmart in the evenings after the big shipments come through, and they will give you tons of boxes for free! :)

  20. Check with Lowes for boxes. And I too am obsessed with Orange is the New Black. I just started watching it this week!

  21. I know craft stores will give you their boxes like Michales and AC Moore, Hobby lobby.
